About this Endowment Fund

The Sondra & Robert Berman Social Work Endowment Fund was established to support social services at Jewish Family and Children's Services of Southern New Jersey and to support a memorial award that is given each year to a JFCS social worker who represents the values of service, social justice, dignity, integrity, and compassion.

This fund was founded by Michele Golkow, a JFCS past president, and her husband Curt, in loving memory of their beloved mother and mother-in-law, Sandy, and their beloved father and father-in-law, Bob.

Sandy Berman was a social worker who went door to door in New York City to visit families to assess and respond to their needs. She was passionate about social work her whole life and instilled in her children and grandchildren the kindness and compassion that comes from giving to and caring for others. Bob Berman exemplified these same ideals in the devoted and compassionate way he cared for Sandy during her prolonged illness.

Pictured above is Sandy and Bob Berman at Michele and Curt's wedding in 1988.

Pictured below is Judi Shoulson, a JFCS social worker who received the award in 2014 for her exemplary efforts in helping community members in need.
