JCF Announces Matching Grant for Israel Emergency Campaign

Israel is healing from a devastating terrorist attack on October 7th, and the Southern New Jersey Jewish community and Jewish communities around the world are helping with the recovery.

Locally, the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey launched an Israel Emergency Campaign (also known as Operation Swords of Iron) to raise $2 million dollars to support the recovery efforts as coordinated by the Jewish Federations of North America.

To assist in this fundraising initiative, the Board of Trustees of the Jewish Community Foundation, Inc. has announced a special dollar-for-dollar matching grant of up to $50,000 to encourage grant recommendations from JCF-held donor advised funds (DAFs) to the Israel Emergency Campaign until November 30, 2023 to this vital cause.

Here is how you can take part in having your donation matched:

Option 1: If you are an advisor to existing DAF with the JCF:

  1. Initiate your grant recommendation online or via email by November 30:

    1. To recommend your grant online: Log into your DAF account. (Please contact the JCF at 856-673-2582 if you have any questions about accessing your online account.)

    2. Alternatively you may email the JCF to let us know to process the recommendation on your behalf.

  2. Recommend a minimum $100 grant to the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey and direct it to the JFNA Israel Emergency Campaign in the memo. (Note that your grant recommendation must amount to no more than is in your fund's balance.)

  3. The JCF will distribute the grant from your fund to the Federation, and we will include your amount in the matching grant (up until the $50,000 total is reached).

Option 2: If you do not have a DAF but would like to open a fund and then participate in the matching grant campaign:

  1. Download and complete a DAF application.

  2. When finished, consult with the JCF by calling 856-673-2582 or infojcf@jfedsnj.org to submit your application and get started.

  3. The JCF will open your new DAF and coordinate your first contribution into the fund using appreciated stock or other assets or cash. You will gain immediate tax benefits for the current year.

  4. Once your contribution is reflected in your DAF balance, you may recommend a grant as outlined in option 1 above.

On behalf of the entire Board and staff of the JCF, thank you for any amount you can contribute to this campaign, which will go a long way to helping those in need in Israel.

For any questions, please contact JCF Executive Director David Snyder at 856-673-2571.

Am Yisrael Chai.
