Volunteer Mitzvah Day at New Camden Cemetery on Oct. 26: Join Us!

The Jewish Community Foundation, Inc. welcomes community members to participate in a Volunteer Mitzvah Day at New Camden Cemetery on Sunday, October 26, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Note: Teens may participate but must be accompanied by an adult, and an adult should complete the registration form on the teen's behalf.

Volunteers are welcome to attend as long as they are available that day. Guests are welcome to visit graves at any time as well.

Important note: We highly encourage all volunteers to bring work gloves and any tools they have available and feel comfortable using such as rakes, pruning shears, hand saws, etc. Also, there are no restrooms or running water available, please plan accordingly.

As some background, the JCF oversees the Jewish sections of the New Camden Cemetery, encompassing some 1,500 graves. The cemetery is located at the northeast intersection of Ferry Ave. and Mt. Ephraim Ave. in Camden.

Over the past year, the JCF's New Camden Cemetery Committee, chaired by Sid Goldberg, has initiated a wide range of refurbishment projects at the cemetery, including removing trees that were displacing gravestones as well as providing cover for loiterers, uprighting dozens of fallen gravestones, filling in sunken graves, and more.

To build on these successful projects, hands-on assistance from volunteers on October 26 will help to continue to beautify the grounds. Anticipated projects include:

• Raking leaves

• Removing debris

• Cutting back shrubs and vines

• Updating the online database to ensure all graves are listed correctly

• And other light work as needed

There is no rain date currently scheduled. Registrants will be notified via email if the date has to be cancelled or postponed.
