The Jewish Community Foundation, Inc. (JCF) oversees the two Jewish sections of the New Camden Cemetery, where approximately 1,500 Jewish burials have taken place since the 1890s, and the grounds continue to be utilized. Here are two notable occurrences:
First, to help beautify the grounds of the Jewish sections and minimize expenses, the JCF welcomes volunteers to engage in mitzvah projects on site.
To that end, on Sunday, June 7, a group of volunteers from Temple Sinai of Cinnaminson spent time picking up trash and debris, while learning more about the cemetery's history as well as Jewish burial traditions. Special thanks go to Rabbi Colman Reaboi for organizing the gathering and also providing some insights about symbolism on Jewish gravestones and other traditions for Jewish burials.
Pictured is the group following their cleanup work. Representing the JCF were (l-r) New Camden Cemetery Committee Chair Sid Goldberg and JCF Board member Harv Cohen with Temple Sinai's Rabbi Colman Reaboi, Grayson Cohen, Josh Cohen, Rhonda Cohen, Peter Goldstein, and Noel Goldstein. Save the Date: Genizah Book Burial on October 11, 2026
Looking ahead, South Jersey Jewish community members are invited to save the date of Sunday, October 11 for a Genizah Book Burial at the cemetery grounds. This follows the most recent book burial held at the cemetery in 2023. Plans are also in the works about having Mitzvah Projects for individuals or groups to take part in, to help maintain the grounds. Details will be announced in the coming months. To get involved in planning the event, contact Mike Staff.
